FANNING - FENNING - FINNING

The three families may never have originally been related.

But some families appear to have changed the spelling of their name and so may not belong where their spelling suggests.

Changes may be due to local dialect, politics, illiteracy, mistakes by officials etc. etc. ... ... 

In many cases we may never know how or why.
